The main reasons for doing any ritual connected with
earth energies are:
To feel a sense of bonding with the earth and each other;
To celebrate the magical wonder of the earth;
To access the strength contained within earth energies
in order to increase our various 'reality changing'
desires and abilities.
The best time to connect
with these earth energies is at the beginning
of seasonal change - at the solstice and equinox times.
It's all pretty straight
forward at first glance until the question of
hemispherical differences comes up.
Suddenly we have a
difference of 6 months and
opposing seasonal changes to deal with.
What to do ??
Do we globally celebrate new years eve in June or December?
Do our Christian or Jewish
or Islamic friends celebrate
Christmas or Pass Over or Ramadan according
to the local season, or do they all do it on the
same (relative) dates around the world?
If we were born in summer
and we move to another
hemisphere does our birthday change
from January to July?
If we live in the southern
hemisphere do we just link with our
northern friends and overlook the obvious discrepancies -
that their summer happens when our winter is upon us
for instance - or do we reverse the rituals
to suit our weather differences?
And what do we name the days on which we perform those rituals?
Is the 30th of April still the 30th of April?
Is May Day still the first day of May?
Of course it is.
The weather might be
different but the date and the energies
contained within the thought indicated by that
date are the same - globally.
We all 'join hands'
together in a celebration and bonding ritual
at the same planetary time of the year, no matter what
the weather is like outside our window.
In this way the feelings of
focus and willingness,
of balance and healing, of love and friendship,
are augmented as we all move towards the
same magical global thought.
