Nadia Bjorlin Nadia Bjorlin's life began on August 2 in Newport, Rhode Island. She is the fifth child (out of six) of Ulf Bjorlin and his wife, Fary. When Nadia was two months old, the family moved back to Sweden, her father's native country. Nadia was born into a family of musicians, and her father was a conductor and composer. They traveled abroad for a few years, until Ulf took a job conducting the Florida Philharmonic and Palm Beach Symphony. At this time, Nadia was seven years old, and she barely spoke English - which was a tough barrier to overcome at school.
In this time, Nadia had fallen in love with music and had began performing professionally when she was only six years old. She and two of her brothers began performing as the Bjorlin Trio at her father's concerts. Her father also featured her in his adaptation of classic stories into musicals, such as Hans Christian Anderson's "The Snow Queen", and "The Portrait of Raoul Wallenberg". Unfortunately, her father passed away when she was twelve.
As a young child prodigy, Nadia attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute for several years, where she received recognition and awards for excellency in theatre, voice, music and dance. Nadia also spent her junior high school years and her first two years of high school attending the Palm Beach County School of the Arts.
Nadia also performed and sang with the Palm Beach Opera for two years and in 1996, she competed in a large international vocal competition in Verona, Italy where she was part of the choir who won the gold medal. When she was a junior in high school, the Bjorlins moved to New York City where she attended the Professional Children's School. There she studied alongside other fine actors and actresses, such as Julia Stiles, Gaby Hoffman, and the Culkin kids. Just recently in May of 1999, Nadia won first place in the Metro Lyric Opera Competition, also in New York City. When she graduated from high school, she decided to shift her focus to acting.
Nadia has been featured on covers of several fashion magazines, and takes a special interest in all kinds of music and dance. "I especially love Latin music and Latin dance, such as the salsa and merengue," the young actress states. Because of her love of music and dance, she appeared in Ricky Martin's music video of "Shake Your Bon Bon" (she was one of the go-go dancers in a short silver skirt). She is not only musically inclined in voice, but in piano and flute (*the best instrument, of course!) and she has been teaching herself how to play the guitar. Nadia has the hopes of producing her own CD in the future, and looks to Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, and Whitney Houston as her inspiration.
Nadia also maintains a close relationship with her mother, who always encouraged her to try something new. "My mom taught me to belly dance as a child, and I've loved it ever since," the young actress says. She also described her mother, who is an interior decorator and designer as "the most visually artistic person I know." Recently, Nadia's mom moved out to California to live with Nadia and one of Nadia's brothers. Nadia says that her mom is like her best friend. "She's a cool mother, she's fun to have around...she's the one who always kept the family together and has been the strong one and has always known what to do...She's always been there and had the right answers."
More recently, Patrika Darbo commented on the closeness of the Bjorlin family. Darbo attended an Oscar Bash with the family, and she saw firsthand the talent in the family. The talent in the house, however, is definitely rivaled by love, says Darbo. "They are absolutely incredible people who have graciously taken us into their family. There's a lot of love there."
Nadia had just landed an agent when the nationwide casting call for the role of 'Chloe' went out. She flew out to L.A. for the screen-test and two days later, she got the part. She celebrated by packing up everything in New York City to move out to California. Patrika Darbo was the first Days of Our Lives star who welcomed Nadia to the cast. Nadia tells of her experiences with Patrika: "She took time out of her own life when we weren't on the set to get together with me and practice before we could shoot...She gave me little hints as to which camera was on me." Tom Langan, Executive Producer also described Nadia as "a serene, fascinating beauty who floats through a room."
In her very little spare time, Nadia also enjoys horseback riding, ice skating, and swimming. Since her birthday is on August 2nd, her zodiac sign is Leo. She stands 5'8" tall and has brown (naturally wavy) hair and blue eyes.
