FREEDOM THROUGH MILITARY VICTORY

Suppose we give 3 men $1,000.00 each and turn them loose in Central Park at midnight, a place infamous for muggings and assault. Our trio will be Mr. Rogers, Pee Wee Herman, and Mike Tyson.

Question; Which of the three will almost assuredly still have his money the next morning?

If you guessed Mike Tyson, please continue. If you chose either of the other two, or rationalized somehow that all three might emerge unscathed, go back to La La Land. What's written here is for people with a modicum of common sense.

The point is that even a criminal doesn't want to tackle a man who can break his jaw. His objective is to steal some valubles, and his secondary objective is to do so without suffering any physical injury to himself.

This exact same principle applies on a national scale. The nation that is armed to the teeth, and has a well trained army, isn't going to fall victim to the predators of the world. Pearl Harbor taught us that even a strong nation that appears weak invites aggression. Let me rephrase that; Pearl harbor should have taught us, but I'm sad to report that this isn't the case.

Still today, after we suffered a terrible tragedy on our sacred soil, the ranks of Americans are rife with the peaceniks who cling desperately to the notion that appeasement and political maneuvering are an effective deterent to war.

A wise man once said (his name slips my mind) that; "We learn from history that we learn nothing from history", or something to that effect.

Odd, wouldn't you agree? Especially in light of the fact that there is no force of nature so predictable as mankind. Pertaining to our subject, the source of human freedom, the evidence is overwhelming. Go back as far as you care to; Egypt under the Pharaohs, the Roman Empire, The Greeks, and of course, America....all nations that were established and waxed great with a strong military.

With the exception of America, they all slipped into obscurity when their military faltered, and we are on the brink of that same grave error. The Clinton Administration orchestrated the most intensive campaign to disable the military in American history, not only materially, but psychologically. They closed dozens of bases, mothballed hundreds of fighting ships, diverted funds to purchase ammunition and military hardware to pay for social programs.

I know from reliable sources that the morale in our services has never been lower. Our base housing for enlisted personnel has fallen into disrepair, with raw sewage flowing in the storm gutters from ruptured sewer pipes in many cases. Plumbing, air conditioning, appliances, roofing....badly in need of repair or replacement. The allocation paid the men won't pay for a decent dwelling off-base, so many are forced to live in these squalid conditions.

Incidence of alcohol and drug related crimes are off the charts, as are violent domestic crimes, like spousal and child abuse. The denial of pay increases during the Clinton years only made a bad situation much worse. At one point the U.S. Air Force had to freeze discharges for their pilots because so many were rushing to get out and find a civilian flying job that we couldn't man our fighters and bombers. The ranks of maintenance personnel became so thin that aircraft sat idle, needing repairs. Not that it mattered, there were no parts to fix them with.

A friend of mine stationed at Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Base informed me that they actually had no ammunition to conduct field exercises with their tanks! They couldn't conduct the Marine Corps annual rifle range qualification because supplies of small arms ammo was so sparse.

I noticed an article about the shortage of crew members on the admiral's flagship in the Gulf. Perhaps a civilian doesn't realize the alarming gravity of this report. Every man on a ship has an important role in the operation of the vessel, from the engine room to the mess hall, and when battle stations are sounded each man has a critical billet manning an anti-aircraft gun, or carrying ammo from the magazine to the guns, manning watch stations....they each play a significant part in defending the ship from enemy attack.

So when you have a shortage of crew members it means men are forced to do more than their own duties in operating the vessel, and there are battle stations that aren't manned, which makes them vulnerable. A very poor state of affairs for any front line naval vessel, but the Admiral's Flagship!!!!! That's tantamount to suggesting the President grill some burgers for visiting Heads of State, for crying out loud!

Allowing women to serve in combat units, allowing women to serve aboard naval vessels at sea, allowing homosexuals to join the services and openly declare their sexual preference, forcing drill instructors to go easy on boots so as not to "violate their rights", installing a system of peer review and "sensativity training" that completely disrupted the traditional function of authority in every service. You would have to be in the military, or a veteran, to grasp the terrible consequences of these insane measures to the effectiveness of our military.

Most civilians aren't aware that we don't have an Air Force big enough to wage a conventional war any longer. Take a guess....what is the "Plan B" contingent plan, if the balloon goes up, for support aircraft?

The Congress will sequester the airlines and force them to dedicate their planes and pilots to the American war effort. Do you have any idea how lame that is? Pitiful!

During the Clinton regime hundreds, thousands of our best professional soldiers, airmen, sailors and marines left the services in disgust. When General Krulak resigned as Commandant of the Marine Corps the last of the hard line warriors left the Pentagon to the "new breed" of military technocrats, Bill Clinton style.

What am I saying, and how does this relate to the scriptures?

It should be obvious what serious ramifications these facts have on our national security and our future. Let me assure you, the Mike Tyson analogy is definately in play here, because in terms of American credibility on the international stage, we have become the Pee Wee Herman of the world militarily powers.

Every half-baked dictator on earth thumbs their nose at us! Case in point, the Magadishu disgrace. We shouldn't have lost a single man in that battle. Hell, we shouldn't have been there at all!

North Korea is threatening us with nuclear muscle, Osama bin Laden and his ragtag bunch of hillbillies are still a threat to Afghanistan and Pakistan. The madman in Iraq flips us the bird and makes light of our war plans. China shoots down one of our aircraft over international waters and holds them captive for weeks. We're a joke in the back rooms of every government on earth.

Don't believe me? Impressed with our show of air power in the Gulf War?

Why do you suppose we have to call up the reserves to fight a dinky little half-pint nation like Iraq? If we America couldn't have spent the billions we needed to for ordinance and fuel, not to mention aircraft maintenance, we would have flubbed our dub in that war and lost thousands of men.

Reserves are good men, but they're part time soldiers, civilians. Don't be fooled by the assinine statement of Swartzakopf that the military force in the Gulf war were "the finest fighting men in American history!" Who is that jackass kidding? In the first place, those soldiers and marines encountered Iraqi soldiers that surrendered enmasse. One unit even surrendered to a reporter, for pete's sake! The vast majority of our troops never fired their weapons.

I'd say "Stormin' Norman" said what he did to elevate his own stature, as the Commanding General of such an elite force. If they're the finest of all time, he's the finest Commander of all time. Not to belittle the men who served in the Gulf. They went and did their jobs, but I'm sure most of them would agree that it was a cake walk over there. Compared to the World War II generation, even the guys who fought in Vietnam were rank amatures.

In case you haven't noticed, those of you who know anything at all about the Bible, the martial tone of scriptures is the most consistent theme throughout the Word of God, from the times of Abraham to the nation of Israel in King David's reign, and right up until the last great war, Armageddon.

Many of the military terms are mistranslated in the King James, so it may be difficult to recognize this fact. Just a few examples;

266 verses in the Old Testement refer to Jehovah, the pre-incarnate Christ, as "Lord of Hosts", or "Lord God of Hosts". The interpretation of "host" is actually "army".

The following is a list of words related to the military and war, and the number of verses they appear in...Some of the words appear in the same verse;

Battle - 171
War - 1,225
Fight - 111
Blood - 392
Arrow - 79
Sword - 404
Chariot - 153
Siege - 48
Host (army) - 573
Captain - 237
Mighty men - 101
Men of valour - 32
Slew - 186
Soldier - 34
Smote - 221
Slain - 168
Smitten - 62
Slaughter - 55

This adds up to an astronomical 4,010 occurances. Granted, some of these words are used in a non-related context, but I figure it balances out, because many of the verses about the military don't have any of these words. In any event, I believe you get my point.

In the following verse there is reference to the military bearing of the elect angels that appeared to the shepherds on the night of Christ's birth. The word "host" is "army" in the original greek, and the connotation is they were in formation, not a huge gathering, like a mob.

"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold,
I bring you good tidings of great joy, which
shall be to all people. For unto you is born this
day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ
the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall
find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in
a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a
multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and
saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace,
good will toward men. "
(Luke 2:10-14)

The next illustration is slightly off the track, but I want to emphasize Divine policy here. When you fight a war you destroy the enemy. Any student of military doctrine will tell you that after a battle you persue the routed enemy and "mop up", which means defeat must be total, complete. Tragically our politicians have lost sight of this ancient principle of warfare, if they ever knew it at all.

When an army claims utter victory there are no enemy left to reform and attack again, or form smaller units and ambush your forces. The Marines on Tarawa are an excellent example of this principle....only one single Japanese survived, over 7,000 killed.

Naturally, this seems brutal and cold blooded to the average civilian, but all of you who fall into this category can thank God that our men in uniform have practiced it down through the centuries, for we would not be free if our military doctrine was as wishy washy as our polticians are.

"And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle,
the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves;
but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until
they had destroyed them, neither left they any to breathe."
(Josh 11:14)

Numbers 2:6 begins a roster of each of the eleven tribes of Israel (there were originally 12, but Dan was cast out). On this occassion Moses was commanded to organize the people into military units by their tribes. This passage includes Num 2:6-32, but all of the Book of Numbers is devoted to the organization of the nation Israel into military units.

"And his host, and those that were numbered thereof,
were fifty and four thousand and four hundred...."
(Num 2:6)

The next passage records one of the great battles that the Jews, led by Joshua, fought against the inhabitants of their homeland, given to them by God.

"And they went out, they and all their hosts with them,
much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea
shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many.

And when all these kings were met together, they came and
pitched together at the waters of Merom, to fight against
Israel.

And the LORD said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them:
for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain
before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their
chariots with fire."
(Josh 11:4-6)

Many of the analogies Paul uses in the New Testement are military in nature. "The full armor from God" is one that comes to mind. He also explains eternal rewards with an analogy using Roman battle honors, "crowns". The Judgement Seat of Christ is explained by a Roman military tradition. When the victorious General would come back from the wars he conducted a "bema", which was a large platform on which he stood, and he called out the names of his bravest men and awarded them a crown.

It is no surprise that we live in a world where there is such turmoil and violence, for our existence here is to settle the conflict bewteen God and Satan. Niether elect nor fallen angels can die, and it is doubtful that there is battle in the spiritual realm as we think of battle, but the conflagration between the forces of darkness and light are manifest in our world as bloody, turbulent wars.

Concerning God's attitude toward war; His policy is freedom, which is the ideal environment for the gospel message to flourish. It is God's intention that all men hear about the good news of salvation and be given the chance to accoept Christ as their Savior. But the devil is obviously opposed to freedom, for the presence of Christianity in his kingdom is not only an affront to his majesty, it will be the evidence that his false claims are bogus and result in his damnation.

The stakes being so high, you can understand why Satan wages a continual campaign against freedom in humanity. Consider the nature of our enemies, the Communists, or Hitler's gang. Their common charactaristic is tyranny. Worship of God is prohibited and Christians are persecuted, hunted and tried for high crimes against the state. He wages a war against freedom internally as well. Crime is the epitome of Satanic strategy, for it dashes the rights of the innocent without a second thought.

Both left and right wing extremeists are also enemies of our freedom, including Christian crusaders who victimize women and doctors over the abortion issue. Envrionmentalism is perhaps the most alarming threat to our freedom within our own borders. Environmental wackos are systematically destroying our free enterprise system using the "endangered species" law and other trumped up environmental issues. Americans are being denied their right to own property and own land, raise cattle, enjoy recreational activities. Many industries have been seriously damaged by the environmental juggernaut; Logging, mining, petroleum exploration and production, steel manufacturing, commercial fishing, farming and livestock.

Thank God that He raised up a man like George Bush the younger. I'm no fan of politicians, but at least Mr. Bush has taken a pro-military posture and taken on the evil of terrorism. Morale in our services has improved 100% since Clinton stepped down. But even Bush wouldn't have taken such a pro-military stand if it hadn't been for September 11th. In this we can see the grace of God at work, for that was what America needed to wake up and act against our enemies before it's too late. It's a terrible price to pay for our folly over the past 20 years, but infintesimal compared to the chaos that would ensue if our military preparedness continued to deteriorate.

As for an international consensus concerning our actions against terrorism, our President ought to tell the world to butt out! Either lend a hand, or get lost. God has never left a Client Nation at the mercy of other nations. His policies are clearly spelled out in His Word, and if we adhere to His instruction then He will be our shield. America should be tough and more than ready to fight. The next time a Mogadishu type scenario takes place I hope to see our men level the place to the ground! Such is the kind of reality that evil types sit up and pay attention to.
