The Mind of Christ

We all use our brain to think. That's what God designed it to do, process thought. But we must all understand that WHAT we think is all important.

As we come from the womb, and for a considerable portion of our lives, we think cosmic thoughts. That's no surprise. We are born into the Cosmos Diabolicus, the kingdom of Satan, and furthermore, we are trapped in an organism, the human body, that is part and parcel of this world.

We are born dead to God, creatures with a sin nature. Unless we learn Christian values from an early age, the thoughts we think originate in this realm, from a combination of sources. We receive education, which can be a positive thing, but much of our brain activity is initiated by what we assume is true, based upon our observations, and the irresistible influence of the sin nature.

But God created us to glorify Himself, and that process bequeaths upon us immeasurable blessing. To accomplish this he has provided us with a complete set of thoughts which conform to His perfect essence. This was one critical purpose for the incarnation, to set an example, create a blueprint for the victorious Christian life. The humanity of Jesus Christ began just as we begin, with one enormous exception, He was without sin, and thus, He never thought even one cosmic thought.

His thoughts were meticulously recorded for the purpose of providing Divine thoughts for us to think.

"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus..." (Phil 2:5)

Whereas we compile a formidable volume of cosmic thoughts apart from any encouragement or schooling, we must make a conscious effort to acquire this Mind of Christ. That is no easy undertaking, for God's thoughts are not only different from what we learn here, but they can not be acquired by human ingenuity or intellect;

"For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." (Isa 55:9)

"For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ." (1Cor 2:16)

As we grow in spiritual stature, as we acquire more of Christ's thoughts, we suffer the inevitable conflict between this world and the Kingdom of God. When we sin we lose fellowship with Him and return to the sway of the sin nature as carnal, rather than spiritual believers.

"But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin." (Rom 7:23 & 25)
