Paris
Paris is a character from the Iliad, written by the Greek poet Homer. It tells about Gods, Godesses and the sins of the Greek people. And there is also the story of Troy, a city, and Achilles, the hero. But it all starts with Paris, the young and honorable prince of Troy.
In the movie it is said that Paris met Helena when he went to king Menelaus with his brother to allow a free trade. He instantly fell in love with this woman. And she loved him too. Two young people, in love with eachother, but bound to a destiny they didn't choose theirself. It is indeed very tragical!
The Iliad tells that here was aparty of Gods. Zeus, King of all Gods, had a golden apple and said that the most beautifull Goddes would get it. They couldn't decide which one was most beautifull so they decided to ask a mortal men. They asked Paris. All three Goddesses promised him something if he would say she was most beautifull, but Aphrodite said that he would get the most beautifull mortal woman, so he chose her.
The woman he got was Helena, wife of king Menelaus and queen of Sparta.
The outcoming is the same. Helena and Paris fall in love and Paris kidnaps her.
Paris is a very tragic character, because he can't be with the woman he loves, because she's already married. And she loves him too, but they know that if they go outside the walls of Troy, Paris will be killed, because the armies of Sparta are waiting.
When the war really starts, Paris is called to battle. He promises Helena he'll come back and goes outside the walls of Troy, killing king Mennelaus in a one-to-one fight. But he sees how his brother Hector is slaughtered by Achilles and he wants revenge.
The beautifull Paris, considered to be a lover and not a fighter, kills the immortal Achilles. He hits his one weak place, his achilles.
Troy is absolutely a great movie, such as Lord of the Rings. Orlando made a good choice taking this role. This is the way we like to see him!
