Truly horrible. Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo (alternately
subtitled Muy Stupido or SNL Turdshow) is remarkably
weak, even by the barrel-crud standards of the majority of Saturday
Night Live alumni comedies. Rob Schneider's done some funny
stuff on TV, but is hopelessly charisma-free in his very unfunny
first starring role. But he's not alone; you get the impression
that the producers set out to make a thoroughly incompetent movie
and contractually stipulated that no performer or writer would
be allowed to sneak in a moment of liveliness. A perfect example
of moronic concept moviemaking--familiar TV comic plays schmuck
who gets gigolo gig. A few dozen seconds of minimally stirring
wackiness are squeezed out to make a preview/commercial, add 90
minutes of partially hydrogenated movie-substitute, and you have
instant schlock.
