Galaxy Quest is a completely winning gentle parody of the Star Trek franchise, well-cast, well-acted, and occasionally very funny. Tim Allen does a perfect ersatz Shatner as paunchy middle-aged actor Jason Nesmith, who played Commander Peter Quincy Taggert on the long-cancelled scifi show Galaxy Quest, and now trolls the scifi convention circuit with his ex co-stars. Real-life good aliens recruit the old Galaxy Quest crew to help battle evil aliens, and humor, if not hilarity, ensues. The whole cast is good, but Enrico Colantoni stands out as Mathesar, leader of the good aliens, and Tony Shalhoub's mellow "Tech Sergeant" is a great riff on the various frantic Star Trek Engineers, from Scotty on down.
