Katherine Whitton Bake was born in Midland, Texas on June 8, 1950. Growing up in Albuquerque, New Mexico she began acting at 10 but didn't make her professional acting debut until she was in her 30s. She graduated with a degree in French from the University of California at Berkeley and then moved to Paris where she earned Le Grande Diplome, studying haute cuisine at Paris' famed Cordon Bleu and returned to America to work as a pastry chef. In 1985 Kathy married Donald Camillieri, which she has two children with, but got divorced in 1999. In June 2003 she married television director Steven Robman. The couple resides in Los Angeles.
