. ersheng Vaziri was born in Tehran, Iran and raised
there, until she came to the US to continue her studies.
She received her Masters of Arts from New York University
and worked in documentary films in Boston, New York
and Tehran. She has worked for Internews Network, an
international media company that promotes dialogue
through media programs in societies in conflict.
She has been location producer for several PBS projects
for Internews and other production companies, that focus
on women, such as Vis a Vis: Beyond the Veil and
Adventure Divas, Iran episode. She has written articles on
the situation of cinema and journalism in Iran and has
taught filmmaking in Boston.
She has produced and directed several personal
documentaries: Journal from Tehran, 1987 a memoir of
war days in Tehran, a prize winner which was broadcast
on television and shown in many cultural and university
outlets. Far From Iran, was commissioned by New England
Foundation for the Arts in 1990; A Place Called Home,
1998, is about the filmmakers decision to leave the US to
live in Iran, and is distributed by Women Make Movies at
major art centers and museums, such as the Museum of
Natural History in New York, Boston Museum of Fine Arts,
The Chicago Film Institute, Pacific Film Archives of San
Francisco and others; her new work, Women Like US,
is her latest documentary film.
