The 'Not So' Ultimate Surf Fishing |

|
At the end of March Phil met surf-fishing enthusiast, Dillon Grippo and headed out to Careyeros in an attempt to put him on a Roosterfish. As luck goes, the Roosters were no where to be found again so they traveled to Boca de Tomates at the mouth of the Rio Ameca in search of Pargo, Snook or Jacks but all they could attract with their Ranger lures was a Crocodile. So, no fish but Dillon was thrilled to see a 6' Croc in the wild. Ironically, Dillon called the next day to report that he had spent the morning alone on Punta Negra and landed a 21 pound Jack Crevalle. Oh well, Phil can't win them all! Congratulations Dillon! Bringing in a Toro from the beach is a thrill that few have the opportunity to experience. |

Phil's Ultimate Surf Casting experiences were ill timed in March. Edward Salinas spent a day on Careyeros with Phil and despite the fact that he had the ideal gear; the Roosterfish were just not around. Several days later, hearing that some of the boats had hooked Roosters in this area, Phil headed back to Careyeros and with his new Power Pro line, he finally did it, caught and released a 20 pound Rooster with his own gear. The big mystery is where that white beam of light came from. |

Totally ecstatic, Phil headed back alone the following day and caught 2 Roosters at about 30 pounds and Phil will attest to the fact that landing, trying to take a photo of himself and the fish and then releasing it is a quite an exercise in agility. You will have to use your imagination to figure out what Phil is doing in this photo, seems like getting his face centered was more important than documenting the Roosterfish catch and Release. Can you relate to this Sergio? |
