About Kurama and Youko

Past: Shuichi was born to Shiori Minamino and her husband(who died later on, as Shuichi explains to Yusuke in episode 7). He had grown, over his fifteen years, to love his mother and decided to not leave her, even though that's what he had planned. In all truth, Shuichi is really a fox-youko known as Youko. He had originally planned to leave his mother after a few years and go back to the Makai but he hadn't.

The Reikai Item: Shiori had fallen ill while Kurama was still in Junior High(where he had short hair). He didn't want his ningen mother to die because he cared so much about her. She had melted his icy heart and taught him what love and kindness was. Kurama had met with Hiei back when he was still in Junior High and they had become partners(and friends, though Hiei won't admit it). Now, this being the present and him being 15, his mother had fallen even more ill and this is probably why Kurama decided to steal the Forlorn Hope/Mirror of Darkness with Hiei and Gouki. The mirror was said to reflect the deepest wish of the person who summoned its powers but the mirror required one thing for the wish to be granted: the life of the person who was using it. Though Kurama knew about what he had to give up he still stole the mirror and broke apart from the little theif group that consisted of him, Hiei, and Gouki because he had his own intentions for the mirror.
Kurama had asked Yusuke, after he had defeated Gouki and Botan was trying to help the stubborn Reikai Taiten and met in a group of people, to meet him at the hospital for he wanted to speak with him and meant no harm and didn't wish to attack. During their meeting, on the rooftop of the hospital, Kurama told Yusuke that Shuiichi was the name that he had taken on in the Ningenkai and that Shiori wasn't really his mother and he felt bad for keeping his secret of being the fox-youkai Youko from her. During their conversation a nurse came to the rooftop and told him that his mother had gotten worse. Leaving Yusuke on the roof, Kurama went to speak with the doctor, who told him that she had taken a turn for the worse and would probably die that night without a miracle happening. This happening, Kurama went back to the roof to use the mirrors mystical powers and to bring his mother back to full health. He was ready to give his life away for the woman who had raised him without knowing about his true self and Yusuke said that it was stupid to give up his life just for his mother and he told him he knew what the crying face of a mother who had lost her child looked like and that he never wanted to see something like that again so Yusuke told the mirror to take his life instead of Kurama's.
After the wish had been granted Kurama woke to find himself alive and his mother back to health. Yusuke woke up, surprised to see that he had lived through that and told himself to think before acting through and ordeal like that. The mirror had told Yusuke that for the act that had just happened it decided to let them keep their lives.

Qualities: His emerald green eyes and long red hair, which slightly resembled a fox tail. He's a great strategist and uses his weapon, the Rose Whip, to fight with. He manipulates plants and uses them as weapons. His best quality, though, would have to be his personality. He's a very sweet guy and is usually always smiling. Kurama is very friendly and cares a lot for his friends and family. Warning to anyone who decides to threaten someone he cares for: DON'T unless you want to find yourself facing a very angry fox-youkai and have yourself killed.

Techniques:
Rose Whip - Self explanitory. Kurama sends his youki into a rose and it turns into a whip, which he uses as a weapon.
Kagen Retsuzam Shi - Like the rose whip, he sends his youki to transform a rose into a whip but this attack slashes through anything and hits as many times as he wants or can be slashed.
Fuuka Enbujin - A defensive skill. Rose petals will fly around Kurama and are used a barrier to protect him and the petals are razor sharp so anyone who tries to make it past them will be greatly damages(maybe killed)
Kyuuketsu Shokubutsu - A plant from the Makai that enjoys sucking the blood of a youkai. It can smell out the blood and attacks the bleeding youkai and blooms, once enough blood has satisfied its greed.
Shimaneki Sou - Used during the Ankoku Bujutsukai. A seed is planted within the body of the victim and will slowly grow within that persons body, taking over the entire body and will only bloom when Kurama says "Die."
Janen Ju - One of my favorite techniques of Kurama's. The tree's seed is planted within the victims body and will slowly take over the victims body. Once it takes root and develops all the way it will cause the victim to go into a deep state of illusion, reflecting the person deepest nightmare and the illusion won't stop until the day that person dies. Such a horrible, horrible weapon..

*CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT SEEN THE 2ND YYH MOVIE!!!*
Past: Youko is a ruthless, cold-hearted thief in the Makai. He's a nine-tailed fox who decided to prefect his abilities to stealing from highly guarded places and get their most valuable treasures. Youko worked with Kuronue, his best friend back in the Makai. -Note: We learn about Kuronue in the 2nd Yu Yu Hakusho Movie- The two had been making an escape after stealing a more than valuable mirror and something happened. Kuronue's necklace broke and it went flying back towards where they had been coming from. He turned to go back after it, being that it was precious to him, and he never parted from it. Youko stopped and yelled for him to not go back but the other youkai didn't listen. As he went to grab it sharp bamboo sticks came raining down on him and Kuronue yelled at Youko to go and save his own life. Having no other choice Youko did as his friend said and ran off but he later mourned his friends death.

In the series we learn about Youko being in a band of thieves. In the group, he was partnered with Yomi, a youkai who later becomes his enemy. Yomi had went against Youko and started his own group of thieves and went about killing and let his followers die on instinct instead of thought. This caused Youko to get rather angry he sent an assassin to go and kill Yomi but, all the assassin did, was blind him and Yomi caught the assassin and tortured him till the day he died. During a robbery Youko had been doing he had made a miscalculation and was shot. With his last ounce of energy he sent his spirit to the Ningenkai and took over the child that Shiori Minamino would be giving birth to and this is how he became Shuiichi Minamino.

Qualities: Long, silver hair, cute fox ears, golden yellow eyes, fox tail, and his cruel look. His personality is another good thing of his qualities. Youko's a ruthless killer and an intelligent strategist. He can control plants but he doesn't use the Rose Whip as his weapon, he uses the Makai plants.
