Sam Vigilia on Keyboards.
Store keeper/Struggling entrepreneur/Disillusioned action figure collector/Star Wars and Zombie movies lover/Chocoholic

+ Sam grew up in Manila listening to his and his older brother's cassette tapes of The Doors, The Cure, Pink Floyd, Depeche Mode, Aha and others and the classic era (Beethoven, Chopin, Bach etc.). And soundtracks of movies like Star Wars (John Williams!), old world war II movies, and Phantom of the Opera. He studied piano at around the age of 9 every summer school vacation. Never really learned the proper piano techniques because of his on and off classical training (Due to an unproductive habit of being very busy every summer afternoons watching cartoons on TV). A frustrated classical pianist. He managed to get over with his frustration by learning to operate his older brother's electronic Yamaha portable organ. Thus discovering the wonderful potentials of the electronic instrument.

+ By high school, he started composing songs for himself and later, for a garage band he and a friend started. It was at that time he met his future band mates from Solitude and Five Wounds To Enter. The Scarlet Tears project came into being from November 2003 to early 2004 when Sam decided to be a full-time composer and just work for his own pleasure. But he soon dumped the idea because: Sam: "It is more fun to be in a band. With fellow fruitcakes and pervs... hehe."

+ Sam only plays the keyboard. He also uses digital techniques and music recording software to create "rough" demos for his band and solo project named Eastern Twilight.

+ In his own words: "Fear is searing all good things."

+ Gear: Korg X5D, PC, Cubasis VST, Audigy and a lot of T.L.C. :p

Aldwin Santos on Bass
Civil engineer/Cad structural Engineer/Session guitarist/Video game addictus

+ His great interest in bands started when he was in grade school. New wave was very much predominant at that time. During that time, he listens to a lot of The Cure, U2, X’mal Deutschland, Sisters of Mercy, and White China etc. At that time he never as so much dreamed of playing any musical instrument.

+ It was during college that Aldwin learned the significance of chords in music. The first ever musical instrument he learned to play was a Yamaha mini-organ. When Trash, Grunge and Death Metal came to the scene, it was then that he took specific interest in the guitar. He managed to join a death metal band. It was his first ever band, a death metal band called Apostate. To Aldwin, those were the good old days. He was playing rhythm guitar then, but when Apostate's bassist left the scene, he had to do the bass chores and thus learned to play bass guitar.

+ His current influences are the following: Amorphis, The Doors, Dream Theater, Iron Maiden and of course the artists from the New Wave era.

+ It was April of 2004 when Scarlet Tears entered his life. He was invited by the band’s guitarist (Marvin, who was his classmate in grade school) to play bass for them. Marvin was also his former band mate in Apostate.

Katrina Pallon on vocals.
Art Student/Painter/Photography enthusiast

+ Katrina has always been fond of singing ever since she was a child. She started taking voice lessons when she was in 3rd grade, which she continued up to her 4th year in high school. She got fed up with singing (temporarily) so she decided that it's finally time that she learn how to play a musical instrument. Thus, Katrina studied how to play the guitar.

+ During her 4th year in high school she formed a band called Sessha. When she graduated from high school, she continued that band together with three former high school classmates, things didn't work out for them so they, unfortunately, had to disband.

+ It was her older cousin that greatly influenced her. It was he who made her listen to bands such as Black Sabbath, Pantera, Mega Death, Metallica, Testament, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Fear Factory, Down to Orgy, etc during her elementary days. If it weren't for him, Katrina wouldn't have developed an appreciation for dark and ear bashing music. XD

+ Katrina is the youngest in the group. When asked how she manage to join Scarlet Tears: "Sam messaged me on the net if I was interested in trying out for the band he is forming. And since I trust him (but not that much, hehe!) and because I have faith in him. (I've watched him and his former band - Five Wounds To Enter, a couple of times before), I decided to try out. It took them several months for them to decide and told me they would like me to join their band".

+ Katrina's Favorite Artists/Music includes Within Temptation, Tristania, Miranda Sex Garden, Autumn Tears, Theatre of Tragedy, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Love Spiral Downwards, Dead Can Dance, The Pixies etc... Broadway music (she especially love the songs from Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera), a bit of classical music, and soundtracks from selected movies especially those by Danny Elfman.

Marvin Abordo on Guitars.
Bank officer (RCBC)/Novice toy collector

+ He started listening to music since he was in grade school where his neighbor who is a die-hard punk aficionado influenced him. The first batch of bands he was able to listen were the Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, DRI, Dead Ends, Discant-X and some 80's bands like The Cure, Ardourn Delirium, and The Dawn until he was able to discover by himself other rock genres like metal where he decided to learn by himself to play the guitar so he can also be in a band.

+ The first band that he joined is a high school band where too many things went wrong but it was a good experience for him. Marvin became very interested to play metal music because during those times grunge was the fad so he joined a grunge/alternative band called Bahaghari that plays Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers and other mainstream alternative music. Not being "grunge" enough, he was kicked out in the band. Still wanting to form a death metal band, he found out that his high school friend; Francis Gerard Reyes also listens to the same kind of music. So they formed a band named Apostate. They played Amorphis, Cannibal Corpse etc... They lasted about three years playing in the underground scenes and in bars like Cafe Romeo, Yosh Cafe and Club Dredd. He also sessioned in an alternative/metal band called Tanikala while playing for Apostate. After getting a college degree he decided to quit the band and find a job.

+ After six long years he called Francis to know how he was doing and found out that he was still in the music scene. So he started to attend gigs whenever his friend's band is playing. After Francis left his band (Five Wounds to Enter) to work in the U.S. Marvin was invited by Francis' band mate Sam to form a new band.

+ Gear: Japan Fender Guitar Floyd Rose series, Seymour Duncan Custom5 humbucker pickups, SX acoustic guitar (customized), Zoom 707II, Boss Flanger, Boss Chorus CH1, DOD Trash Master.

Roel Sotto on Drums
Drum and sound technician/Freelancer

+ Roel started listening to rock during his high school days. The Doors, Pink Floyd, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath was his favorite sound trip during those days. Listening to that kind of music eventually made Roel wanting to learn to play various instruments. It was also in high school where he first experienced to play in a band. His high school friends often invite him to watch their rehearsals in a studio. During the break, his friends would teach him how to play the drums. Then a couple of years after, he joined the band.

+ He started playing in a grind core band. Presently he's already been in a lot of bands as proof of his veteran status in the local music scene. Bands such as Apostate, Barang, Candy Audioline and Five Wounds To Enter to name a few.

+ Some of the all time faves of Roel: Third And The Mortal, The Doors, Miranda Sex Garden, Pink Floyd, The Smiths, Black Sabbath, Grace Nono, Pinikpikan, Portishead and Peace Pipe.
