Richard Langen gave Oceanside High its first Show Choir in 1995 with the debut of the "Sound Waves". The program was loved by both students and parents, and became an elective at Oceanside High. Starting out in intermediate competing divisions, the Sound Waves soon made their way into the advanced competitions in 1999. As the interest in the program grew, also in 1999, Richard Langen decided to create a beginning women’s show choir, the “Sea Notes”. The students love the show choir programs, and it gives each participant a great amount of knowledge in the performing arts field.
The Show Choir groups focus on singing, dancing and entertaining. While in the program, students have the opportunity to gain instruction and guidance in many areas such as solo and ensemble singing, choreography and precision, showmanship, and costuming. Competing and performing all over Southern California, the students are able to travel to and experience places they might have not been otherwise. The show choirs perform for audiences of all sizes, and are an entertaining show for any age.
