The Silence

In the air the silence
roams free and wild,
rampant in everyone’s business.
gliding easily through space
with not a care in the world,
we listen, but can’t seem to
find the silence lurking
among the trees, as wind blows
gently through rustling leaves
causing fire to the ears of
those straining to hear.

In the air the silence
pauses for a moment to catch
her breath; continues onward
skipping past traffic on sidewalks
and the ice cracks so loudly
like the earth is crumbling, falling
to her death, while the silence
with apathy, strolls along, because
no one can bear to listen.
