Sometimes every group has their own conversation lingo, terms of technique or misunderstandings of each other. Here you'll find various terms and phrases along with parts of speech, some correct definitions and flagline definitions.

new!1 and a 1/2's:  see also toss. done very low in which the flag itself rotates roughly 1 and a 1/2 times.
new!2 and a 1/2's: see also toss. more exaggerated done much higher and roughly 2 and a 1/2 rotations, thus requiring more push
new!8 to 5: [term] in marching on the football field with normal marching steps, there are approximately 8 steps per 5 yards. This may vary with different technique or destination. Other popular terms are as follows: 6 to 5 and 4 to 5.
At Ease: [v. command] 1. to break attention with permission, with no talking or other distractions while waiting for the next objective  2. (to tired, worn out flaggies) to sit
boob twirling/spinning: [n. v.] to spin a flag or other equipment at boob level, instead of the correct belly-button level
captain: [n.] 1. a person appointed to lead a group   2. an airheaded and sometimes too energetic flaggie that can be bribed with candy
new!chasse: [n.] shah-SAY also sashay, der. French  a dance step where one foot chases the other, much like a gallop
co-captain: [n.] 1. a person appointed to help assist the captain or lead the group when the captain is unavailable   2. cabbage, not quite blonde, not quite brunette
dancing: [v.] 1. to move graciously and swiftly, to express emotion through the human body, a favorite pasttime   2. to flail arms wildly and jump around in fear, after tossing a flag and attempting to catch it
Elk's Lodge: [n. fundraising] a dining edifice where the flagline can be found several Saturday nights serving in uniform, causing a lot of racket and eating good food. Also, main source of income for the guard
fight song: [n. spirit] a routine done often at football games and pep rallies that is usually fun and enjoyable, but are often done at approximately 600 beats per minute at the discretion of the drummajors, resulting in dead-tired flaggies halfway through the second quarter.
flaggie: [n.] a member of the flagline
new!flying: [v.] done during a chasse; when one's arms flap like a bird, also, incorrect
George: [n.] a monthly visitor that prevents female flaggies from performing their best
It's not about what you want: to get over oneself; realization of the impossible 
ladle: [n.] a position in which all members of the flagline make a straight line
line: [n.] a position in which all members of the flagline make a curvy ladle
macaroni: [adj.] how one's smile should look when performing or practicing
mark time: [v. command] 1. to march in place [v. command]   2. to march in place while swaying one's hips ostentatiously left to right like a waddling elephant
naked man: [n.] 1. a male being unclothed, bare   2. the caps at the top and bottom of the flagpole (i.e. “Please cover your naked man” or “Don’t let your naked man get cold”)
nazi block: [v.] Also known as "hell practice" to run through a routine or drill until there is a mistake, then return to the beginning. Repeat as many times as needed or until flaggies drop like flies.
No food or drink in the building: bring no food or drink in the building unless there are enough for everyone
one mo' gen: to repeat routine until your arms fall off
parallel to the ground: 1. to set the flag at a 0 or 180 degree angle   2. to set the flag at a 10-25 degree angle
polewavers: [n.] the director's name for the flagline
pop-a-squat: [v.] to sit
purpleful vision: [n.] the use of one’s vision staring straight ahead while still being able to see to the right and left
ripple: [n.] 1. an action done by each flaggie at a different time, thus causing a domino effect   2. a movement in which all members of the flagline execute at the same time, causing infuriation to the instructor
squirrel: [n. equipment] a small, quarter-sized metal plate found inside a naked man (a cap). One can acquire a squirrel by using bad technique and constantly dropping the flag, thus causing the breakage of a naked man, releasing the squirrel.
story time: [n.] a break in practice or sectional used for informational or gossip sessions
new!toe-step: [n.] a marching technique minus the rolling of the feet. Instead one points their toe and lands on their heel, usually resulting in shin pains
To the rear.. HUT! CANCEL!: [command] 1. to immediately change direction of travel (from forward to backward in one single count), to cancel said command   2. a command not to be called when novice flaggies are marching eyes closed with flags extended as intervals
toss: [n. v.] 1. to release flag/equipment into the air by means of momentum and catching it in the same position   2. (only screaming can be heard...)
new!vibrate: the word of the day. Used when a flaggie's pager/cell phone goes off during practice. Often accompanied with the shaking of one's body to demonstrate said word of the day.
We don't beat or blow we woosh!: a reply in place of "Pride!" to the command, "Guard attend hut!" displaying the guard's pep and spirit, often said in a girlish tone, unfortunately.
