All you need to know to become one
and what the job entails.
 
So you want to be a Flight Attendant ??
Well first of all make sure you have 10
fingers and 10 toes ,2 arms and
2 legs , a sunny disposition
and self discipline made of Iron
and Hey Presto you are halfway there.
I will endeavour to tell you as much as
possible without being biased towards
any particular airline.
 
Let me stress from the onset that if you
don't like working with people , or cannot
handle them , then this job is NOT for you !
You will only make your life and that of the
passengers a misery , and besides if you dont
like what you are doing as a profession , then
do something else ! Nobody is forcing you
to do a job , you are doing it out of your free will !
 
Anyway if you have been working in the service
industry , it will definitely be an added advantage.

Okay lets see what you can expect when applying
for the job as Flight attendant.
First of all buy the Sunday Papers eg. Sunday Times
or the Star newspaper,
 as these positions are usually advertised here. 
 
Please do not submit a CV / Resume when the
position is not currently advertised as the airline's
receive dozen's of them daily and can not possibly store
them all. Also if there is no reference number on
the application it will be discarded.
The reason that these positions are always advertised
in the media is because crew are trained in batches of
10 - 12 people and due to the high cost of
training a flight attendant.
 
In all fairness I think everybody that
wants to become a flight attendant should
also be informed as to the disadvantages
hence I have included all the disadvantages
of the job.
 
 Most operators in SA are hiring at present
as there is unprecedented expansion going on
at the moment.
 
You may then be chosen for the interviews
(Usually 3 to 4 interviews) and a full medical.

Usually if they ask you to come in for the medical
you can be fairly sure that you have made it past
first base.A word of warning though , if you like experimenting
with drugs , then forget about the medical,as they will
difinitely trace any drug in your system even if you last
used it months ago - ditto for alcohol , and then you
can kiss this opportunity goodbye.
 
Once Accepted you will first go for Induction which
lasts for 3 days and thereafter go for 3 training modules which
take about 2½  -  3 months. The modules are:
1.  S.E.P.T. (Safety and emergengy procedures training)
 
2.  AVMED (Aviation medicine)
 
3.  Functional (Service training or how to do the service)
